The Australian AgFood sector has the critical mass of 20 large ASX listed brands to take on global markets

Ten AgFood companies presented at PAC Partners 1st Hong Kong Conference on 13 June:

  • Australian Agricultural Company (ASX: AAC)
  • Althea Group Holdings (ASX: AGH)
  • Australian Sports and Nutrition
  • Bega Cheese (ASX: BGA)
  • Bubs Australia (ASX: BUB)
  • Burra Foods
  • Elders (ASX: ELD)
  • Select Harvests (ASX: SHV)
  • Wingarra Ag (ASX: WNR)
  • Yumbah

And with over 75 attendees led to terrific interaction between investors and opportunities.

The AgFood leaders have three standard ways of build “trusted links” between producer and customers:

  • FOCUS – on short term steps in context of long term strategy
  • UNDERSTAND – industry and external factors
  • NEED – discern between customer wants and needs

The recurring themes were: provenance; partners; and innovation. Return on capital was highlighted by a few.

The good news for HK (and Australian) investors was that expansion to off-shore markets and public listing were “inevitable” for high growth AgFood companies.  Australia is a small discerning consumer, but a great base for emerging capital.  The ASX has an opportunity to be the AgFood public exchange of choice for Asia.

On a micro level, positive earnings surprise appears more likely for Select Harvests (SHV.AX) and Elders (ELD.AX).  Bubs Australia (BUB.AX) and Althea (AGH.AX) have opportunities for breakout growth with regulatory approvals. Bega Cheese (BGA.AX), Burra Foods and Yumbah are in high growth modes.  AACo (AAC.AX) is a turnaround.
